André de Villiers is a fantastic musician with a remarkable testimony – a story that’s all about God’s grace and power in one man’s life. Music-wise, he has several albums out and is well known for his work in crafting songs for TV adverts. Here are two well-known adverts that feature his music:

André writes from the heart and his songs represent his own times of difficulty and joy. It’s going to be a wonderful evening of music and snacks. This is a great opportunity to invite friends who will be open to hearing an honest, relevant story of brokenness and gratitude.

The Desires of the Flesh

This Friday we continue with the second part in our series Discipling in the Trenches. We’re looking at 1 John 2:15 – 17 and unpacking its relevance to how we lead ourselves and disciple others in the workplace.
1 John 2:15 – 17
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides for ever.”
We’ll be looking at understanding what the ‘desires of the flesh’ actually are and how the enemy uses them to try and distract and disqualify us from being the disciples of Jesus we are called to be in the workplace. Jesus has given us the power and will to live lives victorious over these desires of the flesh. This Friday, we’ll show just how much he has done that.

The 5 Love Languages of Children

On 9 April 2016, Cornerstone Church Bedfordview will be hosting a workshop based on the book The 5 Love Languages of Children, by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell.

Kids desperately need to know how much you love them. But if you don’t know their special “love language”, you may as well be speaking gibberish. Every child (and adult) expresses and receives love best through one of five communication styles. Find out which of these your child speaks. If your love language is different from your child’s, you could miss your chance to meet their deepest emotional needs. Discover how to express unconditional feelings of respect, affection and commitment that will resonate in their souls – and inspire them for the rest of their lives.

The workshop is hosted by Carol Bailey from Dare to Love, who uses her experiences in both the classroom and the home to share examples and ideas on the application of the Five Love Languages with children under 12 years. The workshop is designed to help parents identify their child’s primary love language as well as recognise and correctly interpret empty love-tank signs. Many practical ideas and suggestions are given during the workshops to help parents implement the principles.

Moms, dads, uncles, aunts, grandparents are all welcome!

Machine Gun Preacher – 22 Nov

Maybe you’ve seen or heard of the movie, starring Gerard Butler, about Sam Childers A.K.A. the Machine Gun Preacher, who overcame a life of drugs and violence to embrace Christianity and wage a 13 year war to free enslaved children in Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan. He is currently on a preaching and ministry tour in South Africa and will be coming to Cornerstone Bedfordview on 22 November, 6pm, as part of a cafe evening. Bring and share food!

The Machine Gun Preacher will also be speaking at the following venues while he is here:

20 November 2015 – Wits University. The Great hall.
21 November 2015 – Hosted at Bezuidenhoud Park. At 9h00 we will meet Gus Park in Bertrams and march to Bezuidenhoud Park. This is an all day Carnival event. Sam Childers, the Machine Gun Preacher will be ministering at around 14h30. This event will be aimed to address the violence in the area and incorporating the local authorities to raise awareness for the community.
22 November 2015 – Church on the way. 1 Casino Road, Modderfontein, during the morning service at 09h00.
22 November 2015 – Heartfelt Ministries, Centurion at 14h30.
