Sunday Ministry
Children’s ministry on Sunday (during the morning service 9am – 10:30am) is made up of two broad teams:
These are Kings Kids, which are our delightful 3yr olds to Grade 2 who meet at Pebbles Nursery school and Gemstones (Gr 3 to Gr7) who meet at “the house” which is next to Pebbles.
Kings Kids’ morning starts with some relaxed outdoor play and games sessions followed by a group activity/story in the hall and praise and worship. Thereafter we divide into our classes (separated by age) where the children enjoy learning more about the specific theme chosen for the term and can spend some time making crafts. The lessons are purposeful and our aim is to instill Godly principles as well as the Word of God into these children in order to build life lasting foundations. The children are given some juice and biscuits and then enjoy free play until mom and dad collect them.
Parents are welcome to join us at any stage of the morning, especially for the younger ones who may feel intimidated at first. We would love to get to know you and show you around.
For Kings Kids please help us to ensure your children are kept safe by handing them over to a teacher at the gate and coming to collect them yourselves after the meeting. Please remember: Siblings younger than 16 are not allowed to collect them on your behalf!
Lesson plans and themes
Children have an amazing ability of knowing when teachers are unprepared and try teaching off the cuff and it is for this reason that we choose a specific theme each term and follow it through in well organized lesson plans, games and group activities. Cornerstone has a store room with resources galore which helps stimulate ideas and provides a means of making lessons both creative and purposeful. A basic guideline is provided for each teacher but we encourage them to add their own flavour and allow the Holy Spirit to guide them in leading their unique groups.
God blessed Term1 with a very practical and yet challenging theme of “Choices” and we are eager to see His hand in term 2 with the new theme “Faith”.
The outcomes set for Term 2 include:
· Teach key verses on faith with focus on Hebrews 11
· Use examples from the Bible of people who had/lacked faith
· Give children opportunities to share their testimonies of faith
· Provide practical tips on how to improve their faith, specifically linked to Scripture.
· Provide guidance for children who battle having faith
· Equip children to use their shield of faith in all circumstances
Teacher Training and requirements:
All teachers are active members of Cornerstone who have completed the Vision and Values Course and are accountable to both home groups and the eldership team of Cornerstone. They are all voluntary workers and it is only through God’s provision that we have once again been blessed with an enthusiastic team with a definite call on their lives. We are excited to see how He uses each one of them this year in coming along side you, the parents, in leading your children closer to God. When it comes to Children’s Ministry there is no such thing as being over prepared or over trained. We need to stay ahead and it is for this reason that we encourage training throughout the year. The Children’s Ministry Bible study sessions have been a great success and so have the Equip times held at Urban life Church. Teachers also attend other training times such as GO Teach held by CMC. Cornerstone also has their own Children’s Ministry Manual and can be made available to anyone interested.
Tea and biscuits will be served after the morning service at Pebbles on the first Sunday back of each term. Please feel welcome to join us so that we can get to know you better, introduce you to the enthusiastic team of teachers and answer any questions that you may have.
